A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is a tech professional who works directly with a customer to understand their real business problem and build and deploy a working solution for it. Unlike a traditional software engineer who builds one product for many users, an FDE builds for a specific customer. In day-to-day work, this means running discovery conversations, scoping a project and defining success, exploring the customer’s data and systems, building prototypes with AI tools, demoing to the customer, deploying the solution, and measuring its impact. FDEs also turn what they learn in the field into product feedback. Consider taking a Forward Deployed Engineer course to learn this workflow in a structured way.
You should pursue a Forward Deployed Engineer course because companies building AI products increasingly need people who can take the technology into a customer’s business and make it work. FDE roles combine technical skills with customer communication, which makes them different from standard engineering roles. A structured course helps you learn the full customer engagement cycle instead of picking it up through trial and error. You will work on a real-world customer project, from discovery to deployment, and finish with a portfolio project and an FDE-ready resume.
Yes, you can start with a non-technical background, although some comfort with technology will help. The course uses AI tools like ChatGPT and Codex to help you build prototypes, so you do not need to be an expert coder on day one. Here are some tips to get started:

  • Understand what an FDE does and how the role differs from related jobs.
  • Get comfortable with basic ideas such as APIs, databases, and files, which the course introduces step by step.
  • Practise talking to a customer: asking good questions, listening for the real problem, and explaining your solution in simple terms.
  • Start small, such as using an AI tool to build a simple script or dashboard from a sample data file, and build up gradually.
As AI models become more capable, the main challenge for many companies is no longer the model itself but getting it to work inside a real business with real data, systems, and people. FDEs are the ones who close that gap. Demand for the role has grown quickly alongside AI adoption, and the skills it builds are useful across engineering, product, and customer-facing technical roles. The course covers where the role is heading in the AI era and how to prepare for it.
The salary of a forward deployed engineer in India is estimated to be ₹12.5 lakhs per annum, with the average salary range between ₹6 LPA and ₹10 LPA.
From your batch start date, you will have access to training's content (videos, quizzes, tests, assignments, projects etc.) in the platform for 4 weeks within which you should be able to complete your training.
As this is a purely online training program, you can choose to spend as much time as you want per day and the more time you spend, sooner you would be able to complete the training. However, on an average, spending 1-2 hours per day should be sufficient for you to complete the training in 4 weeks. Some students also choose to devote more time on the weekends in case they are not able to give time on the weekdays.
Dont worry! If for some reason, you are unable to complete the course in 4 weeks, you will have the option to get a 2-week extension for Rs. 799.
Having 4 weeks access ensures you have a deadline to work with and are able to complete the training. It also helps you beat procrastination and maintain continuity in your studies which is why Internshala Trainings students have some of the best training completion rates in the industry.
If you have completed the training, you would be able to download the training content and have lifetime access to it for future reference.
There are no prerequisites for this training as it is of beginner level. Everything that you need to know about Generative AI would be taught to you from scratch.
You can watch videos and take quizzes and module tests on any device, including mobile. However, a laptop or desktop is required for assignments, practice, and the final test.
For assignments, practice, and the final test, you need a laptop or desktop with a supported operating system, a stable internet connection, and an updated Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser. The final test requires Windows 8 or above and with minimum 1 GB Ram, or an equivalent supported desktop operating system. Mobile phones and tablets are not supported for the final test.
Your final test will be proctored, so a working webcam and microphone would be required. Please ensure that they are available and enabled before starting the test.
If you face any technical issue during the final test, contact the support team through the available support channel and share the issue along with a screenshot, if possible.
  • You will receive free access to Placement Preparation Training on the platform which covers resume writing, cover letter writing, how to search and apply for internships and jobs on Internshala, and interview preparation.
  • Access to curated internships & jobs related to the training - after completing the training, you would receive a list of handpicked internships or jobs every week that you can apply to as per your preference.
  • If you are a top performer, a badge of achievement will be added to your Internshala resume and shown to the employers when you apply to internships or jobs on Internshala.
When you score >= 90% in the final test, you will be a top performer and you will get highlighted in your internship and job applications.
