Did you know that the name SELENIUM comes from a Joke by Jason Huggins? He emailed one of his competitors named Mercury, mocking him that he could cure Mercury poisoning by taking Selenium Supplements. The people who read the mail believed it for real and continue to call it the same. Before 2004, People used to test web applications by manual testing to ensure efficiency and accuracy in web browsers.

Then Selenium came into the picture and changed the whole game of testing web browser testing with the Introduction of Automated testing. Initially, Jason Huggins was the developer of Selenium. He created Selenium in 2004 and named it the ‘JavaScriptTestRunner’. The basic purpose of Huggins behind the creation of Selenium was to eliminate the inefficiency that occurs during Manual Testing of Web Browsers.
